In a distant future, the law forbids reading, storing, and quoting books. If someone is found with them, they will be burned together with the house, and the violator will be arrested. People have already become accustomed to spending time in front of the television, from which an endless stream of news pours forth. Everyone has already forgotten what live communication with one another is. Guy Montag works in the fire service, and his job is to burn the discovered literature. The man has no doubts about his tasks or the government’s policy. He even enjoys watching the fire and how it devours the pages.
However, one day Montag meets Clarisse McClellan, a young girl whom everyone considers strange. She rejoices in life, feels emotions, and is not interested in television, unlike most people. Communication with Clarisse prompts Guy to reflect on his daily routine, his work, and the actions of the authorities. These reflections compel the man to embark on the path of resistance.
