When we decide to build relationships, we must remember: there are no right recipes — each person will carve their own unique path. Some will marry, others will build long-term relationships without official registration. Some will have children, others will live without them. Some will be with people of the opposite sex, others — with those of the same sex. In all these situations, there will be something shared, and something that is only yours, something special.
In this book, psychologist-psychotherapist Volodymyr Stanchyshyn speaks about the common moments that every couple may experience. What happens when the period of infatuation ends? Why are crises and conflicts normal? How can they be resolved in an ecological way? How does sexuality emerge? How can parents survive the “explosion” of their child’s adolescence? What stages does a family go through when raising a child with a disability? Why is domestic violence not a private matter and why must we talk about it?
How should family members live when there is a person with alcohol addiction?
How to cope with the loss of a partner?
The author does not offer a program of action, ready-made answers, or advice. Instead, drawing from hours of his practice, he covers life situations most frequently asked about by clients.
Volodymyr Stanchyshyn is a psychologist-psychotherapist. He worked at the Emmaus Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, where he supported parents of children with disabilities.
