The chest and the stove — these are the essential elements of a traditional Ukrainian home. Bread was baked in the stove and it was used for healing; the chest stored the most valuable items and medicinal herbs. Even during times of war and famine, the chest and stove remained the heart of the home — from which life was reborn and flourished.
